Khalifa Foundation adopts the operation of a school in Gaza
The Khalifa Foundation, in cooperation with "UNRWA", adopted and operates a school in Beit Lahia in the Gaza Strip bearing the name of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, "may God protect him."This project comes out of the Foundation’s keenness to stand with the Palestinian people in this difficult ordeal that they are going through, and to contribute to alleviating some of the human suffering experienced by Palestinians in Gaza under the Israeli blockade against the people of the Strip, especially their suffering in the fields of education and health. The efforts made by the Foundation in Palestine are its duty towards the brotherly Palestinian people, given the difficult economic conditions they are suffering from. The Beit Lahia Primary School for Boys, which is located in the northern Gaza Strip, includes 32 classrooms that accommodate about 1288 students in the morning shift and 161 male and 1127 students in the afternoon shift from grade one to fourth grade. The number of teachers in the school is 37 teachers in addition to 17 cooperating teachers. UNRWA Commissioner-General Filippo Grandi announced that the Khalifa Foundation for Humanitarian Action was the first to respond to UNRWA’s call to adopt a school in the Gaza Strip that would serve more than 2,500 students. In a speech at the ceremony held in Gaza, in which he announced that the Khalifa Foundation for Humanitarian Works will adopt a school in Beit Lahiya belonging to UNRWA, he said that it was decided to name this school as "Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan School" in appreciation of the Foundation's prominent role and its continuous response and support. Your generosity has always been extended to the efforts of the United Nations Agency for the Employment of Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). He explained that this school, which was bombed with phosphorous and artillery shells during the Israeli attack on Gaza in December 2009, is working with the help of the Khalifa Humanitarian Foundation to serve two separate schools, one for boys and the other for co-education, while the number of students in the two schools is a total of 2,576 students.Grandi stressed, "We are deeply grateful to the pioneering institution and its patron His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may God protect him, for this new partnership with UNRWA, which will encourage other partners to come forward and announce the adoption of another school." He pointed out that UNRWA began its cooperation with the Khalifa Foundation in 2008 with a project aimed at providing food for refugees in Gaza. Since then, UNRWA and the Foundation have worked side by side on programs aimed at assisting Palestinian refugees in the West Bank, Syria, Jordan and Lebanon in addition to the Gaza Strip.
