Urgent aid for the displaced Rohingya Muslims, 12 August 2012
His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, "may God protect him", has ordered the Khalifa Foundation to provide urgent assistance to the displaced Muslims of the Rohingya minority in Myanmar, after the bloody events that took place there, which resulted in the death, injury and displacement of thousands of them.The Foundation's delegation, in cooperation with the Kuwaiti Embassy, purchased 3 ambulances in addition to 1,300 tons of basic relief materials from the local market in the Republic of Myanmar, to be shipped by sea to the "Arakan" region, to be distributed to the affected people there.The aid included rice, cooking oil, lentils, medicine and personal hygiene supplies, as well as clothes for women, Raja and children were distributed.In November, the Foundation implemented the second phase of relief by purchasing 1,350 tons of basic relief materials from the local market in the Republic of Myanmar, to be shipped by sea to the "Arakan" region in the north of the country, to be distributed to the affected people there. They included basic food items such as rice, lentils, salt, dried meat, hygiene items such as soap, etc., tents to accommodate the affected people, blankets and clothes for men, women and children.
